Mr. Prime Minister -- stop killing whales!

Japan continues to hunt whales every year under the guise of “scientific research.”  We don’t buy it. These expeditions are heavily subsidized by the government and results of the research are yet to be seen. The whale meat is then openly sold in restaurants and grocery stores. The Japanese government declares it is trying to reclaim the costs of whaling, but it doesn’t come close to breaking even -- thousands of tons of whale meat sit frozen, stockpiled in warehouses where it will go to waste.

Despite the international ban commercial whaling, Japan continues its cruel and unnecessary hunt. Sales of whale meat are down, there are increasing reports of contaminated whale meat and public outcry is louder than ever before. Whaling is a dying industry and it’s time for Japan to stop.
