Damning Indignation at Rio+20

UN Earth Summit, June 21, 2012 – A selection of photographs from a “Clean Energy” side conference inside the Rio+20 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As the consortium building the Belo Monte Dam presented a public relations powerpoint which downplayed the outright human and environmental devastation the dam complex will cause along a 60 mile stretch of the Xingu River in eastern Brazil, Sheyla Jurnuna, a leader of the Juruna people whose community will be decimated by the construction of the dam, and Maira Irigaray, a campaigner with Amazon Watch responded with raw courage and indignation.
